Automated Estimate Follow-Up for Contractors: Jobber vs Housecall Pro vs Make
Prices last checked on vendor sites: October 23, 2026
Most small contractors are good at sending estimates and bad at chasing them. You price the job that night, send it, and the next emergency call wipes it from your mind. Automated follow-up fixes that: the software resends the quote or nudges the customer on a schedule, so a quote doesn't die just because you were busy. Here's how Jobber, Housecall Pro, and Make handle it, and what each costs. Prices checked October 2026, on each vendor's own site on October 23, 2026.
What "estimate follow-up automation" means
When an estimate sits for a set number of days with no answer, the software resends it or nudges the customer by text or email, moves it to a "followed up" stage, and after the last nudge marks it lost so your list stays clean. You pick how many nudges and how far apart. Some tools use AI to draft the message.
Option 1: Jobber (built in from the Connect plan)
Jobber's pricing page lists "Automate quote and invoice follow-ups" as a Connect plan feature. Jobber says automated follow-ups go out by email or text when a client hasn't responded to a quote. Core, the entry plan, doesn't include them.
Jobber's prices (1 user, regular prices billed annually; monthly no-commitment prices in parentheses):
| Plan | Price | Follow-up features |
|---|---|---|
| Core | $29/mo ($49) | Quotes with signature approval; no automated quote follow-ups |
| Connect | $99/mo ($139) | Automated quote and invoice follow-ups, automated client reminders, QuickBooks Online sync |
| Grow | $149/mo ($199) | Adds a custom automation builder, two-way texting, and quotes with images, reviews, and optional line items |
| Pipeline add-on | $49/mo | One view of every request and quote so leads don't go cold (included on Plus) |
Extra users are $29/mo each. When we checked, Jobber was also running a new-customer promotion that ends October 30, 2026, so the price you see may be lower for the first months. Look at the Jobber pricing page for the current numbers. The free trial runs 14 days on Grow, with no credit card required.
Jobber also lists auto-drafted quotes built from new requests, high-value quote alerts so you know which bids to chase by phone, and Jobber AI Voice, which creates quotes and sends messages by voice.
Best for: a solo operator or small crew who wants follow-ups switched on inside the same app that sends the quote. Connect is the lowest Jobber plan that includes them.
Option 2: Housecall Pro (Pipeline)
Housecall Pro's follow-ups live in Pipeline. Its pricing page describes Pipeline as "time-saving, automated follow-ups" and lists it next to its other products, such as CSR AI, Payroll, and Accounting, without a published price. Ask Housecall Pro what Pipeline costs on your plan before you count on it.
From Housecall Pro's Pipeline page and help center:
- Estimate automations resend the estimate after a set number of days and move it through First, Second, and Third Follow-Up stages before marking it declined.
- You set the timing and the wording. The defaults come with suggested language, and you can change both.
- The follow-up goes out the way the estimate went out, by text or email.
- Lead follow-ups too: automations can text and email leads at each contact stage, then mark them lost.
- AI writes the follow-up drafts, so you aren't starting from a blank message.
One catch from the help center: automations only apply to estimates that fall inside the timing you've set. If you switch them on today, a quote you sent three weeks ago won't be picked up, so resend old ones by hand.
Housecall Pro's Basic plan is $59/mo billed annually. The pricing page didn't show prices for Essentials or MAX when we checked, so see the Housecall Pro pricing page for current pricing. The 14-day free trial runs on MAX with no credit card needed. Zapier and open API access are listed on MAX.
Best for: a crew already on Housecall Pro that wants a board showing every lead, estimate, and job by stage, with follow-ups built into that board.
Option 3: Make (do it yourself, start free)
If your quotes live in a spreadsheet, a simple estimating app, or plain email, you don't have to switch software to get follow-ups. Make is a visual automation tool. You build a "scenario" that runs on a schedule, finds estimates with no answer after X days, and sends a reminder to you or the customer.
What Make's pricing page says:
- Make bills in credits. Most actions use 1 credit. Some AI features that use Make's AI Provider may use more.
- The Free plan includes 1,000 credits per month. Paid plans are Core, Pro, and Teams, and paying annually costs less than paying monthly. The page didn't show plan prices when we checked, so see Make's current pricing.
- Businesses with fewer than 20 employees can check whether they qualify for Make's Start-up Plan, which takes 50% off Business.
- If you run out of credits, scenarios stop until more are added. Credits expire at the end of each term.
A basic version: each morning Make reads your estimate sheet, filters to quotes sent more than four days ago with no answer, and emails you that list. A second step can send the customer a polite text or email. Running once a day keeps credit use low. Before you build, confirm in Make's app directory that your estimating or field-service app has the trigger you need. Jobber lists a Zapier connection, and Housecall Pro lists Zapier on MAX, but check Make's own directory for your app.

Best for: a contractor who doesn't want a full field-service platform yet, or who wants follow-ups to work across the tools they already use.
How to choose
- Already on Jobber Core? The cheapest fix is moving up to Connect, where quote follow-ups are built in.
- Already on Housecall Pro? Ask about Pipeline, and test it during the trial.
- No field-service software, and you quote from a spreadsheet or email? Build the morning-reminder scenario on Make's Free plan first. Upgrade only if you run out of credits.

Set it up so it doesn't annoy people
- Two or three nudges is plenty. Spread them out, for example a few days, then a week, then a final "should I close this out?"
- Write like a person. "Just checking you got the roof estimate" beats a sales pitch.
- Call the big ones. Automation is for the steady stream of small and mid-size quotes. Phone the large jobs yourself.
- Stop when they answer. Make sure an approved or declined estimate drops out of the sequence. In Jobber and Housecall Pro that happens through the quote status. In a DIY Make build, it's up to your filter.
